Northeast Austere Medicine Collective (NAMC) was built to combine wilderness medicine education, operational experience, and technical outdoor expertise for people working in remote and resource-limited environments.
Our work focuses on preparing people to operate safely and confidently outside of traditional clinical settings through evidence-based medical education, consulting, and immersive field experiences.

Sean Bilodeau, DO, FAWM
Medical Director – Field Training & Program Development
Dr. Bilodeau is an attending emergency medicine physician in rural, critical access hospitals as well as a tertiary referral center. He completed emergency medicine residency at Brown University and subspecialty training in emergency medical services. A Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, he has taught courses throughout the US and Europe and specializes in simulation-based education.
Jessica Vittorelli, DO
Medical Director – Education & Clinical Standards
Dr. Vittorelli is an emergency medicine physician at a critical-access hospital in North Conway, New Hampshire. She completed residency at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, CA, and a Wilderness Medicine Fellowship at Baystate Medical Center. She has taught internationally in Africa, Nepal, and Peru on remote treks and high-altitude expeditions. At NAMC, she leads curriculum development, clinical oversight, and evidence-based content integration.
Matt Vittorelli
Director of Operations
Matt is a U.S. Army veteran with extensive experience in mission planning, logistics, and team operations in austere environments. He has worked across critical care and prehospital settings and is completing a graduate degree in Outdoor Recreation Economy at the University of Colorado Boulder. Matt oversees NAMC’s program development, logistics, operational systems, and organizational strategy.
Our Story
NAMC grew out of relationships that already existed.
Jess and Sean attended medical school together at UNECOM, while Sean and I spent years climbing and traveling in the mountains together. From early on, we talked about eventually building something together.
After medical school and training took us to different parts of the country, we eventually found ourselves back in New England at the same time. It felt like the right moment to combine our backgrounds in medicine, education, logistics, and the outdoors into one organization.
Jess and Sean had already been independently teaching wilderness medicine courses, while much of my own career focused on planning, logistics, and decision-making in austere environments. Creating NAMC became a natural way to bring those experiences together.
At its core, NAMC is all about education, preparation, technical growth, and building meaningful experiences alongside people who share the same mindset.
